Whole30 Day 11 - 20 (The early end)
Going strong with the whole30...
Day 11 - I am in between two nightshifts, didn't eat last night except to snack on cashew nuts, they kept me going, I normally graze on hospital crackers and the occasional chocolate you find in most wards, I wasn't even tempted. Didn't sleep as long as I'd of liked but slept solidly. Going to have some eggs (when I force myself out of bed) while I wait for the Aussie one to bring home dinner supplies. Trying coconut oil in my coffee, it's meant to release the caffeine more slowly so it lasts longer (it binds to the fat cells). It's actually quite nice.
Day 12 - Just had a banana for breakfast (at 5pm following nightshift) it tasted so sweet! Can't get the taste out of my mouth. I see this as a good thing as hopefully it will keep me off actual sugary junk (I have no cravings for these things). I'm really enjoying cooking, I always have but used to think it required so much effort but there's heaps of things you can rustle up in under 20 minutes. I am really looking forward to being able to use more ingredients though (peanut butter especially - it's so good on pan fried veg with a little bit of chilli). We will finish the whole30 on the 7th of February, and the re-introduction phase on the 17th, perfect timing as my birthday is a month today and I'm already drooling over paleo chocolate cake recipes (ideas for the Aussie one), and looking forward to a prosecco breakfast. (7:30) totally stuffed, had home made meatballs with home made marinara, currently sipping water with lime and mint, wondering if it's too early to go back to bed.
Day 13 & 14 - These past two days we've gone on day trips, yesterday we went to werribee open zoo, taking left over meatballs and fruit salad. Although all the chips smelled good and the ice cream looked good I wasn't particularly fussed by any of it so found it easy to resist. Today we went to the Dandenong ranges with some friends for a barbecue. This was our first social interaction involving food. It was a bit tougher today, the only things we could eat were the steaks we brought and some carrot/cucumber sticks. There were garlic infused rolls on offer which looked amazing and would have made great burger buns (was told they were nice). We spotted two lyrebirds (aka fancy chickens) on a short hike we did which was pretty cool. We stopped at our friend's parent's house on the way back, that encounter and people's reactions at the barbecue made me realise that other feel feel worse for us than we do. It was suggested that we should have told the group prior to the outing so they could be more accommodating and I guess maybe not bring so many crisps and bring more compliant foods. I found this very sweet, but unnecessary. We choose to do this, we are lucky enough not to have allergies and could stop this at any point. It was good today to be around people eating stuff we can't. The whole30 is a challenge, and even though we've not eaten out yet (in a restaurant etc) today was a good indication that we do have full power over what we ingest. It's so easy to have a biscuit or another drink at the suggestion of other people but really it's just as easy to say no.
Day 15 - The half way point!
I'll be completely honest, I'm a bit over it. I don't even want junk, just some cheese on my scrambled eggs or a protein shake post the gym or some peanut butter on apple slices. The list goes on and on. Only 15 days to go, then the 10 day re-introduction phase, then my birthday so it's not all bad. Also bought myself some lilies to cheer myself up.
Day 16 - First day I've had food in a restaurant (chicken and veg) it was pretty bland and I could’ve made better. Had a nice black coffee though (somewhere else). Spent a good chunk of the evening in a bar doing a trivia quiz, was quite happy not drinking and even felt a bit giddy (think I was picking up vibes from everyone else)...a drink would’ve been nice though. Good to know I can resist the temptation. I'm feeling good.
Day 17 - Made it to the gym for the 3rd morning in a row...my abs really hurt. Decided to put a little more effort into my breakfast, having scrambled eggs with spinach, kale, garlic and prawns.
Day 18 - Due to personal reasons. It's over. We got pizza and chips, I only had two slices and some garlic bread, followed by ice cream sundaes. I felt super full and crampy.
Day 19 - This morning my stomach is not happy and I'm still crampy. I'm also full of regret (the pizza wasn't even that nice. Plus I can see the weight I've lost. I'm not going back to the extreme-ness of the whole30 but will continue to be mainly paleo with the odd grain and dairy products. I will also continue to work really hard in the gym to become the healthiest version of myself.
Day 20 - I weighed myself this morning. All I'm going to say is I'm going back to the Whole30 on Monday.
