Vancouver 2008
Found an old journal and within it I wrote blog style posts while on my round the world trip so I thought I'd copy them into this blog. From New York we flew to Vancouver to stay with family.
2nd stop - Vancouver
Starting off as "secondaries" at Newark airport, being puffed at by this walk-through machine. 35 minute journey. Family. Singing and playing the bass on Rock Band and getting 90% for both. Stupid couch - broken toe. Getting obsessed with the Twilight saga (side note: I was 17). Trudging through two foot of snow. Beautiful dead birds. Picnic on Bowen island by the lake. Chips on Grouse Mountain to escape the cold (it was -15 degrees). Dim Sum - trying chicken feet - like marbles in a slimey sack. Redeemed by garlicky fried tiny white fish. Mastering chopsticks... sort of anyway. Seeing old friends from Nepal. Sledging on bin lids at midnight down the streets of Vancouver on the first night of snow, trying (and failing) to avoid the parked cars. Being attacked by my cousins L & J. Drinking (expensive) red wine and liking it. Turkey at Christmas, having a white Christmas. Finally getting lenses in my ($10) glasses. Blenz Belgium milk chocolate mocha with cream. Driving a wee orange car on the right side of the road through snow (go Sna!). Hiking up the driveway on a broken toe. Watching the sunset over the marine from our bedroom window. Skinny Minnie selfies in the ensuite with the right angles in the corner mirror. Canadian cinema trip, alone. To see twilight (see above mentioned obsession). Getting up at 6am for the awesome Boxing Day sales. Lulu lemon. Subway sandwiches. Milkshakes and fries at whitespot downtown. Eyelash tints - feeling like you're going blind. Walking past a guy I went to school with in Kathmandu. Granville Island ( it's not an island) seeing Will from will & grace. Dinner parties, meringue gone wrong. Cute guys at a hockey game (Giants vs Cougars), disappointment at no hockey game fights - it was promised. Chocolate skittles, I wouldn't recommend. Home made brownies. Winning at monopoly until L stormed off. 3000 minutes on a $10 phone card. Dragging Sna to Chapters for the next book in the twilight saga (see above). Reading lots. Watching kids TV with the boys (L & J). Playing Halo on the big screen. Sheepskin boots keeping my feet warm and dry, even in the snow. Leaving clothes behind. Ellen episodes while on the elliptical trainer.
Chocolate milk. Yummy sushi with weird soup. Walking to horseshoe bay for the best hot chocolate (Blenz). Badly made green tea latte, smelled like fish, tasted worse. Serious discussions on the way to the airport with Auntie R. More good-byes.
